rainy days.

My tomatoes have finally started to ripen and the worst pest i've had to deal with are rolly pollys. i can handle those. the amaranth never came up, i'm thinking maybe it was because the seed was a year old and had been stored in an air-tight bag. i dunno, but after a failed attempt last year at germinating moringa tree seeds, i happily got two coming up! i soaked 5 seeds for 24 hours and then planted them in one of my raised beds.

i transferred one to a pot, and they are still doing well. the moringa tree is a sort of miracle tree used in Africa and other areas where malnutrition is an issue. it is fast growing, and the entire tree has so many uses it's unbelievable. The leaves themselves contain all essential amino acids as well as protein, vitamin A, B and C.

every morning, and every afternoon our bunny friends visit. they stick to the grass....for now.

all's well.

our lemon tree is full of fruit!

i found this sweet kumquat tree at a nursery this spring. it was root bound and full of scale. i brought it home, put it in the ground, fertilized it and watered the fire out of it. now it's scale free and happy as can be!

my persian shield...oh how i love you.

all kinds of fungi have been sprouting up. this one landed in a ajuga bed.

the tee pee is doing well. the backside is a little lower, so it's been a little wetter with all the afternoon showers and the seedlings there are showing the stress.

fi fi doesn't seem to mind.

i had a total plant nerd moment this weekend. At Don's seafood restaurant in Hammond, LA three of these guys are growing. they are cypress trees that have been cut down about four feet from the ground and allowed to bush out. fig vine is growing on the trunk and my family thought i was just a LITTLE too excited about the whole thing. i fell in love with it.
